[Psychochilds Blog] WHEEEEEE!: Yes, most of that is the TV and print advertising and we could see the same from Nintendo in the run up to the Wii's release, but I don't think you can argue that simply the name "iPod" was a big reason behind consumers adopting the brand. I think it's very telling that Playstation 'rebranded' the Playstation 2 to an extent, calling it the PS2.
[Game|Life] In Defense of Wii: Nintendo's gently patting the Internet on the head and telling them that it will be alright, but all the while they're pushing hard in the opposite direction. Nintendo has decided that if they had to choose, they would choose the vast market of non-gamers and not the smaller market of core gamers.
[Pixel du Jour] Youve got to be kidding mii: They say it’s supposed to convey how open the system is to everybody, because it sounds like the word “we.” The system is supposed to be accessible to everybody, not just gamers, so the name makes sense in that regard.
[Gonintendo.com] Go Nintendo » Blog Archive » OFFICIAL: Revolution renamed Nintendo ...: as being both a noun and pronoun then people will then basically be saying Nintendo’s new console’s name constantly each day. You don’t see people walking around saying PS3 this PS3 that without even knowing it
[Passthepress.com] Gamers With Jobs Press Pass » Blog Archive » Nintendo Ditches ...: Like it or hate it, you have to admit Nintendo has managed to score the first major buzz-inducing announcement in the run up to E3. And I’m sure the Wii-name commentary is going to continue throughout the event.
[Nintendowiifanboy.com] Confirmed: Revolution now called Wii - Nintendo Wii Fanboy: When I first saw this I thought, "Holy Crap Batman, how did they come up with such a stupid name." But, after reading revolution.nintendo.com page it is getting better, but it is still absolutly retarded. When I hear Wii, I think of a little kids telling his parents he has to go "take a wee." I doubt that Nintendo will change the name cause some people don't like the name, so we are just have to go deal with it.
[Joystiq.com] Was Nintendo ready for Wii backlash? - Joystiq: Nintendo fan-boys can defend Nintendo, and make all the excuses they want.(and I admit that many of the critics of the name are acting like 5 year old's.) But the fact remains,, if you are a company that just released the name of your product, and then your web-server starts to crash repeatedly from all the angry people attempting to log on to your company page trying to voice their outrage at the new name that you just unveiled. Well then, you have got MAJOR P.R problems.
