Wiicon > Might we someday see a WiiHD?

[ ulo.tricho.us] While it’s now more clear that Wii isn’t really intended to be competitive with the next generation at all, the fact remains that many potential Wii buyers (myself included) have invested in HD displays, and we don’t even decide what to have for lunch without thinking about if it would look better in HD. I don’t think that HD support is a dealbreaker in any way for the potential Wii buyer who just wants to play Super Mario Galaxy, but you combine these early-adopter market dynamics with Nintendo’s established upgrade habits, and I think there’s a possibility that we may someday see a Wii-HD as an upgraded model with HDMI out and support for HD resolutions.

This Place Is Dead: Xbox RRPs were £40 but the games usually sold for £29 or £26 in supermarkets, but for now the RRP on 360 games is £50 and even the supermarkets are charging £45. Developers can argue about increased development costs all they want, but when the street price for a next-gen game is double they’re going to have a tough job winning over consumers. (via Cosmos)

If it is true that the Wiimote will include a microphone and will have the ability to store a user phonebook/address book, then this makes the controversial controller an ideal and straightforward VoIP phone.

[Austin360.com] austin360.com: It’s too early to tell if Microsoft and Nintendo’s game consoles will take up the sales slack (it’s likely), but the very high price tag (the $500 version of the PS3 has already been dismissed by many gamers as lacking key features that the $600 PS3 has) could erode some of Sony’s market share in the console market. It currently enjoys a very healthy lead in the current gen of consoles with its ridiculously popular PlayStation2.
